Best Family Photo Locations in Orleans, Ontario
Orleans has some genuinely great spots for family photography, and as a photographer serving the greater Ottawa area, it's one of my favourite communities to shoot in. Here's where I'd point you, depending on the look you're after.
Petrie Island
Petrie Island is a go-to for a reason — river views, natural trails, and a mix of open beach-style areas and tree-lined paths. It works well year-round, though it's especially popular in late spring through early fall. Because it's a well-used public area, I'd suggest booking early morning or closer to sunset for softer light and fewer crowds in your shots.
The Voyageur Pathway
This riverside pathway that runs along the Ottawa River is ideal if you want a mix of water views and natural greenery without needing to drive far from central Orleans. It's a nice option for families who want a relaxed, walk-and-shoot style session rather than a single fixed backdrop.
Neighbourhood parks with mature trees
Some of the most timeless family photos come from the simplest settings — a quiet, tree-lined park near home. Dappled light through mature trees is genuinely one of the most flattering natural lighting conditions for family portraits, and Orleans has several well-established neighbourhood parks that work beautifully for this, especially in fall.
A quick note on access
Public parks and trails are generally open to photography, but if you have a specific spot in mind that I haven't shot before, let me know in advance so I can check accessibility and any permit requirements ahead of your session.
